About

The International Justice Clinic (IJ Clinic) was initiated by Michael Liu, a Civil Party lawyer with the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia (‘ECCC”). The IJ clinic was established for assisting in Civil Party Representation at the ECCC. The IJ Clinic will serve to expose law students from participating Universities all over the world, particularly those in Asia Pacific to the history of the Khmer Rouge and the criminal trial procedures of the ECCC.

The Objectives of the Clinic:

  1. To Identify and assist victims of the Khmer Rouge at the ECCC. These victims include existing victims who have applied to become civil parties in Case No. 002/002 as well as potential civil parties for Case No. 003 and No. 004.
  2. To expose participating law students to the criminal trial procedures of an ‘international court’ thereby allowing comparative analyses between such courts and those of their home jurisdiction.
  3. To develop a community of legal practitioners indigenous to the Asia Pacific region who are interested in international criminal law and/or the wider umbrella of public international law.
